The story of the Matthew Williamson Suite began in 2017, when the British fashion-turned-interior was asked to create a new suite at the hotel after he launched the new Nama Bar in Deià. Be awed by its striking and playful design blending Matthew’s signature aesthetic with Mallorcan heritage. Bespoke touches range from an ostrich feather lamp, vintage dresser and Indian painted cabinet to a rolltop bathtub, peacock chair and Matthew Williamson floral wallpaper. The lush interior theme continues into the generous outdoor living space, which channels the glamour of 1950s Palm Springs in its covered pergola, private pool and garden of floodlit olive trees.
Honouring La Residencia’s strong links with the artist Joan Miró, the Miró Suite offers an idyllic, relaxing retreat. Known for his avant-garde geometric shapes and biomorphic forms, Miró was born in Barcelona but settled on our “truly beautiful” Balearic island with his Mallorcan wife Pilar, in 1954. He continued living here and experimenting in multiple media until his death nearly 30 years later. His creativity is celebrated across the island, but La Residencia is privileged to house the biggest collection of Miró artworks of any hotel in Europe. Thirty-three of the artist’s handpicked pieces are displayed in La Residencia's Café Miró; guests of the Miró Suite are invited to admire these works privately with our resident artist and Miró expert, Juan Waelder.
This Signature Suite is named in honour of George Sheridan (1923-2008), a much-loved figure in the Deià art community and the man responsible for starting La Residencia’s impressive local art collection. His wife Cecilie continues to own and curate the collection, which features more than 800 outstanding contemporary works, including many by George himself. Guests who book the Sheridan Suite are invited to experience Cecilie’s wealth of knowledge first hand on a private Walk & Talk art tour of Deià’s studios.
This villa tips its hat to Robert Graves, one of Deià’s most famous residents who settled in the village from 1929 until his death in 1985. The British poet and author was a familiar sight around the mountain hamlet, living in a house he built just five minutes’ walk from La Residencia. It is now a museum – La Casa de Robert Graves – run by his son William, which guests of the Villa are invited to explore on a private visit. Robert Graves would take bracing morning walks down to the sea, chat with local shopkeepers and farmers, and put on performances mixing local gossip with politics and his works-in-progress.
