Day One
Board for dinner and dancing
Board the iconic blue and gold carriages at Santa Lucia Station and make yourself comfortable in your private cabin. Plush upholstery, polished marquetry and soft lighting set the scene for the glamour to come.
Stroll along to one of the beautifully restored dining cars for a delicious three-course lunch. Through the window, the changing scenery takes in the soaring mountains and glacial lakes of Switzerland’s Gotthard route. During a relaxing afternoon, unwind in your cabin and anticipate an indulgent French goûter, served by your steward.
As evening falls, cocktail hour arrives and it’s time to dress to the nines. Indulge in a refreshing aperitif in Bar Car ‘3674’ as our pianist plays the baby grand. Then sit down to a lavish four-course dinner, enjoying the culinary imagination of celebrated chef Jean Imbert. Seasonal specialities, sourced from artisan producers along the route, are accompanied by exceptional wines. After dinner, a lively ambience, charismatic conversations and tempting drinks await back at the bar.

Day Two
A New Day Calls...
Linger in your cabin this morning and enjoy a French breakfast, served by your steward. As the train pauses in Paris, feel free to stretch your legs on the platform. Leaving Paris, the train continues east through Belgium. Savour an exquisite lunch and take time to browse our onboard boutique for elegant gifts and exclusive mementos. Back in your cabin, your steward serves a mouth-watering selection of pastries with tea and coffee. Then gather your belongings and disembark – the vibrant Dutch capital awaits!
Common Questions From Our Passengers
What do I wear on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train?
You can never be overdressed on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train! For dinner, we ask for formal evening attire and many guests like to don black tie and wear their most glamorous finery for the occasion. Smart daywear is appropriate during the day. At lunch, for example, a jacket/tie or equivalent is suitable. Jeans are not acceptable at any time.
Can the Venice Simplon-Orient Express accommodate special dietary preferences?
We will do our best to cater for special dietary requirements, such as vegetarian, vegan etc, provided a detailed request has been made at the time of booking. If a special request has not been made, the chefs will endeavour to prepare a dish with the ingredients available on board. We do, however, regret that we are unable to provide meals requiring strict religious observance in the preparation.
Are children permitted on board?
Children are welcome to join us on board, and infants under the age of two at the time of departure travel free. Parents must provide their own food and a bassinet for sleeping. Given the space constraints of a Twin Cabin, we always recommend booking an interconnecting cabin or Grand Suite for our guests' comfort. The ambiance aboard the train is geared towards our adult passengers. For this reason, it is at the Train Manager’s discretion that children may accompany their parents in the bar and restaurant cars.
