Admire glittering gulf views from our romantic fine dining restaurant, or lose yourself in nearby ancient vineyards — whichever you choose, panoramic peace abounds. Spend your afternoon lounging by the pool overlooking the bay or savour the flavours of Liguria at our bars and restaurants.
The glittering jewel in Portofino’s crown, Splendido has recently been masterfully renovated by Martin Brudnizki with a newly designed lobby, grill restaurant, pool, lounge bar, wine cellar, coffee bar, library and Spa.

Day One
All Aboard
Board the legendary Venice Simplon-Orient-Express in Paris, where a glass of champagne awaits you as you begin your journey to Liguria. Settle into your comfortable cabin, where plush upholstery, gleaming marquetry, and soft lighting set the scene for the glamour to come. Against this elegant backdrop, your personal journey will slowly unfold.
Your steward serves a selection of pastries with tea and coffee in your cabin as the train begins its journey south through France. It will wind past the compelling cities of Dijon, Lyon, and Avignon to reach Toulon on the glamorous French Riviera.
Before dinner, enjoy a glass of champagne or a refreshing aperitif in Bar Car ‘3674’. Then make your way to one of the magnificent dining cars, infused with the vision of Chef Jean Imbert. His menus pay respect to the regions and cultures touched on the journey and reinvigorate time-honoured classics with a modern twist. Accompanying the feast are bottles from the train’s wine collection, an homage to Europe’s finest appellations. After dinner, the bar is waiting to welcome you back. Enjoy signature cocktails, tinkling piano music and playful spontaneity into the early hours.

Day Two
Wake in France, slumber in Portofino
Wake to idyllic vistas as you travel through Southern France. At a time to suit you, your steward serves a French breakfast in your cabin. Melt-in-the-mouth pastries, fresh juice and aromatic coffee are the perfect way to begin the day. Your route takes you along the stunning coastal railway connecting the French and Italian rivieras, offering glimpses of iconic destinations like Cannes, Monte Carlo and Genoa. Delight in a sumptuous lunch served in one of our elegant dining cars as you journey toward Santa Margherita Ligure. Upon arrival, disembark and enjoy a seamless transfer to the enchanting Splendido in Portofino.
Arrive at Splendido to be swept up in timeless glamour and effortless elegance. Enter your room and soak up the unparalleled views over the Gulf of Tigullio. Recharge by the panoramic pool or at the sublime new Dior Spa, before taking the opportunity to visit our sister hotel, Splendido Mare, down by the harbour. If you wish, enjoy dinner at celebrated DaV Mare restaurant, where you savour the flavours of Liguria in a beguiling waterside setting overlooking the Piazzetta. The night would not be complete without after-dinner drinks at Splendido’s re-imagined cocktail bar, following in the footsteps of Elizabeth Taylor, Humphrey Bogart, Liza Minelli and other legendary patrons.
Kindly note: Spa treatments, dinner and cocktails not included in the package and incur an additional cost.

Common Questions From Our Passengers
What do I wear on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train?
You can never be overdressed on the Venice Simplon-Orient-Express train! For dinner, we ask for formal evening attire and many guests like to don black tie and wear their most glamorous finery for the occasion. Smart daywear is appropriate during the day. At lunch, for example, a jacket/tie or equivalent is suitable. Jeans are not acceptable at any time.
Can the Venice Simplon-Orient Express accommodate special dietary preferences?
We will do our best to cater for special dietary requirements, such as vegetarian, vegan etc, provided a detailed request has been made at the time of booking. If a special request has not been made, the chefs will endeavour to prepare a dish with the ingredients available on board. We do, however, regret that we are unable to provide meals requiring strict religious observance in the preparation.
Are children permitted on board?
Children are welcome to join us on board, and infants under the age of two at the time of departure travel free. Parents must provide their own food and a bassinet for sleeping. Given the space constraints of a Twin Cabin, we always recommend booking an interconnecting cabin or Grand Suite for our guests' comfort. The ambiance aboard the train is geared towards our adult passengers. For this reason, it is at the Train Manager’s discretion that children may accompany their parents in the bar and restaurant cars.
